My name is Charles Kalule. I am the fourth out of ten children of Mukasa Edward and Lydia Mukasa. I come from a village known as Kitemu, Nabbingo parish, Kampala Archdiocese. I studied up to University and obtained a degree in Economics, in Makerere University.
I can trace my vocation from my time at the university. It had a chapel named after St. Padre Pio, and his images were all over the chapel. I wondered who this saint was, so I read extensively about him and as a result I fell in love with this saint.
After university, I got a job and worked for around five months, but I felt unsatisfied; I felt a lack of fulfilment in my life. I felt a desire to serve God more closely. One day I saw a sign for the St. Padre Pio shrine, and on my way back I got out of the taxi and went to visit. There I met the vocations director who gave me information about the Capuchins.
When I went back home, I prayed about the desire that was growing in me and I finally decided in my heart to join the Capuchin brothers where I was to become a priest, which I thought would be the best and most satisfying way for me to serve God. Unfortunately, this news was not welcomed by some of my relatives. Many of them felt betrayed and disappointed in me because I decided to abandon my job in preference to serving God and His people as a priest. Many of the words that were spoken were hurtful but that did not stop me from pursuing my heart’s desire.
I joined the Capuchins in 2016, made my first vows in 2019, and now I am in the third year of philosophy. Unfortunately, this year my parents decided to separate, which was a very hard time for me, but I still pray for God’s will to be done in their lives.
I am passionate about ministering to young people. My other interests include football and volleyball, and I love music; recently I’ve been teaching myself how to play the guitar! I love writing poems and I plan to be a writer. I am also interested in mechanics, especially electricity and motor vehicles, plus computer technology.
When, God willing, I am ordained a priest, I hope to put all my interests and talents in the service of God and His people. I will be praying for whoever is able to assist me in my journey through sponsorship.
OPTIONS FOR SPONSORSHIP
$500/month is a full sponsorship, but we give options for multiple sponsors to join together to sponsor a seminarian. If a seminarian is already partially sponsored, you may see less options for sponsorship.
Br. Charles will be writing to each sponsor and praying for each family daily. Please know that sponsorship for his studies to become a priest (total of 4 years) is an enormous answer to his prayers and he will forever be praying for you whether you sponsor him partially or fully.
