His story
"My name is Br. Joseph Okumu, a 26-year-old seminarian and a Padre Pio Brother. I was born in Mayuge District in Eastern Uganda and raised by my mother after the death of my father. From childhood, my mother taught us to love God through daily prayer, the Rosary, and faithful attendance at Mass. It was in this simple family life that I first felt the call to serve God. My desire to become a priest grew stronger when I met a priest who spoke to us about a life of humility, prayer, and service to the poor. Since then, I have continued to follow this calling with trust in God, even though many challenges. By God’s grace, I completed my studies in Philosophy and I continue to prepare myself to serve the Church, especially the poor, the sick, and those who feel forgotten. I'm am very much challenged with tuition and requirements and i feel i may not be able to finish my Theology degree and i'm worried if i don't finish it, i will never get to the Alter.

I humbly ask for your help. May God bless you for your kindness and compassion."

About my community:
St. Anthony of Padua (Fort Portal)
In the Diocese of Fort Portal, CARITAS helps to sponsor Capuchin Franciscan seminarians during their priestly formation. The patron Saint for this community is St. Anthony of Padua, and we pray for his intercession so that these young men excel in their studies and also become holy priests, spreading the Gospel wherever they are assigned after ordination.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
