Favorite Subject: Math
Favorite Pastime: Soccer

Deogratias has felt a calling to serve God from a young age. Raised in a family of devoted Christians, he admired priests deeply, and his love for serving God led him to express his desire to join the seminary as early as primary five. Despite their economic hardships, his family supported his aspiration, seeing it as a blessing. In 2011, after completing primary seven, Deogratias successfully passed entrance interviews to join St. Mary’s Minor Seminary Virika. However, due to financial constraints, his family could not afford the tuition fees, and he had to attend a nearby non-seminary school with more affordable fees, where he completed his O-levels in 2015.

During his senior four vacation, Deogratias worked diligently in the family gardens to help raise funds for his education. His determination paid off, and in 2016 he finally joined the minor seminary, completing his A-level studies in 2017. Following this achievement, he continued to work hard, raising the necessary funds to join the Major Seminary. In 2018, he was admitted to Alokolum National Major Seminary in Gulu, where he successfully completed his philosophical studies in 2022.

Currently, Deogratias has been accepted into Ggaba National Major Seminary in Kampala to pursue his theological studies. Unfortunately, his family’s financial situation, reliant on peasant farming, does not allow them to support this next critical step in his priestly formation. Deogratias is therefore humbly seeking support to help him continue his seminary education and fulfill his vocation.

Any assistance provided to Deogratias would be a profound contribution to his journey toward priesthood, enabling him to focus fully on his theological training and to continue answering his call to serve God and His people.

About my community:
St. Anthony of Padua (Fort Portal)
In the Diocese of Fort Portal, CARITAS helps to sponsor Capuchin Franciscan seminarians during their priestly formation. The patron Saint for this community is St. Anthony of Padua, and we pray for his intercession so that these young men excel in their studies and also become holy priests, spreading the Gospel wherever they are assigned after ordination.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
