Greetings from Nkokonjeru! Today marks the end of our second full week of teaching at St. Anthony's Nursery School, Stella Maris Boarding School and the Nursery Teacher's College. We have been very busy meeting with Nuns and teachers, planning lessons, and getting to know our students. Here is a sample of what our typical day looks like:
7am: Wake up and enjoy a typical Ugandan breakfast made by our wonderful cook and housekeeper, Flavia.
7:30am: Pack up our teaching materials and begin walking to St. Anthony's to teach.
7:31am: Enlist Flavia's help to feed our dogs Nido and Naan so that they don't follow us in to class and scare the children.
8am: Begin teaching our lessons. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Emily teaches Educational Psychology to the first year nursery school teachers in training while Amber teaches Baby Class (4 and 5 year old preschoolers). On Tuesday and Thursday, Amber teaches Childcare and Educational Technology to the first years while Emily teaches Baby Class.
10am: Break time! The students take a porridge break and have time for recess while we take tea with Sister Lucy and Sister Kyomukama.
