About the Role
The primary mission of a Director of Ministry and Development (DMD) is to:
-
Spread awareness of the CARITAS mission
-
Recruit sponsor families for vulnerable children, seminarians, religious sisters, and clergy from some of the world's poorest communities
Each DMD is assigned a dedicated mission territory to spiritually adopt, support, and represent.
While rooted in their home Diocese, DMDs may also choose to:
-
Travel to their mission territory
-
Build lasting personal and parish relationships
-
Fundraise for essential projects
-
Lead mission trips
-
Establish parish twinning programs
The possibilities are vast—and shaped by each DMD’s unique gifts, creativity, and leadership.
Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking Deacons who:
-
Possess a heartfelt love for the poor and marginalized
-
Communicate with warmth, clarity, and conviction
-
Are eager to evangelize and mobilize others for global impact
Ideal candidates will be:
-
Dynamic preachers
-
Skilled networkers
-
Experienced (or eager) missionaries
-
Motivated self-starters with a strong pastoral heart
Success in this role means casting a compelling vision, rallying support, and building momentum through sponsorships, donor engagement, grants, and community involvement.
What CARITAS Provides
With 25 years as a trusted 501(c)(3) Catholic Lay Apostolate, CARITAS equips every DMD with:
-
Robust back-office systems and global program support
-
Access to donor management software and communication tools
-
Experienced support personnel
-
Guidance and training to develop and grow your apostolate
We handle the infrastructure—you focus on the ministry.
Compensation and Commitment
This is more than a job—it’s a vocation of service. While compensation is provided for preaching and outreach efforts, it is performance-based and scalable.
We will train you to fundraise for your own apostolic growth, with financial support increasing in step with your impact. Those able to generate momentum may find this becomes a primary income stream, but it is best approached as a ministry, not employment.
A One-of-a-Kind Ministry Opportunity
If you feel called to:
-
Serve the poor more directly
-
Build something uniquely your own
-
Evangelize in a way that stretches beyond parish boundaries
Then this could be your next step in ministry.
