Vivian's life took a dramatic turn following her father's death, which occurred after a prolonged illness that the family struggled to diagnose due to financial constraints. The loss left Vivian and her mother in a precarious situation, with her mother taking on odd jobs in other families' gardens and doing laundry to make ends meet. Despite these efforts, the family often misses meals, highlighting the acute financial hardship they face. This daily struggle encompasses the challenge of accessing even the most basic necessities for survival, underscoring a life of significant hardship.

Vivian’s education is another casualty of the family’s financial instability. She attends a local school but is frequently interrupted by the need to go home for classroom essentials her family cannot afford. These interruptions not only hamper her academic progress but also threaten her future prospects. Vivian harbors aspirations of becoming a nurse, a dream that remains at risk without stable support for her education. Her ambition reflects a desire to rise above her current circumstances and possibly give back to her community in a meaningful way.

To transform her aspirations into reality, Vivian urgently requires external support. Assistance with her educational needs would not only ensure uninterrupted schooling but also pave the way for her to pursue her dream of joining the nursing profession. Through education, Vivian sees a pathway out of the cycle of poverty that has characterized her family's life, holding onto the hope that she can achieve a better future both for herself and her mother.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
