Steven is a young boy whose father died of HIV, leaving his four children with their mother who works as a gardener. She struggles to make enough for the family to survive and on top of that, her health is so poor that she requires much attention and regular medical care. This means she is forced to spend nearly everything she earns on food and medicine. This of course leaves no money that she can use to pay for the education of her children.

Steven is also HIV positive and has learned to live with the disease thanks to taking regular daily medication which helps to keep it in check. He has a good attitude about his condition, and he takes care of his siblings as well. His dream is to become a teacher if he gets the chance to attend school and complete his education.

About my community:
Mary Queen of Families (Kasana-Luweero)
The Kasana-Luweero diocese suffered a massacre during the 1981-1986 civil war which left many children orphaned. As the effects of this tragedy are still felt today, we pray to Mary, Queen of Families to help build healthy families and restore hope in this diocese.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
