Shakirah Kadama
Uganda
DOB: 01/14/2012
Female
Good Health
Favorite Subject: Math
Favorite Pastime: Singing

After the death of her father, Shakirah and her siblings were left in the care of their mother, who had no source of income. When it became clear that they couldn’t survive in those conditions, the family moved in with their grandmother—a widow in poor health who couldn’t afford to support them all. To ease the burden, a maternal great-uncle offered to help by taking in one of the children, and he chose Shakirah.

While her mother now cares for the ailing grandmother, Shakirah lives with her great-uncle, who is already responsible for about 15 children. He does his best to feed them all with what he grows in his gardens, but he does not have the financial means to pay for their education.

Shakirah is a bright girl who loves studying math and enjoys singing in her free time. With your support, she can attend school and complete her education.

About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
