Ryan lives with his two brothers and two sisters, along with both of their parents. His father works as a teacher in a privately owned school in their rural area. Teachers in such schools are among the most poorly paid workers in Uganda, facing heavy workloads with large classes. The father's monthly salary is insufficient to cover both the family's home essentials and the children's school needs.

Ryan's sister, Jane, also attends the same school, and both children face similar challenges regarding school fees and supplies. Their mother is a housewife who focuses on managing household chores, leaving the financial burden entirely on the father.

Despite these hardships, Ryan remains dedicated to his studies. If he receives assistance, he will be able to attend school regularly and pursue his dream of becoming a doctor.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
