Regina and her two siblings live with their mother, who struggles to find stable employment or income-generating activities to support the household and cover school fees. They reside in a one-room rental on the outskirts of a small trading center, a living arrangement that underscores their precarious financial situation.

The family has faced numerous challenges since Regina's father passed away due to COVID-19. The children often experience malnutrition due to the inability to afford regular meals, and their school attendance is highly irregular. Regina's mother takes on occasional odd jobs, such as working in other people's gardens, but this work is sporadic and unreliable. Additionally, she tries to raise a few chickens, but theft is a constant threat.

Despite these difficulties, Regina is a dedicated child who dreams of helping her community as a nurse. If sponsored, she will be able to attend school consistently and have a chance at pursuing her dream.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
