Peace, the fifth child among six siblings, comes from a family grappling with poverty. Her father sustains the family by providing motorcycle transportation services, while her mother manages a small household with a few chickens and crops for self-sustenance. However, the family's economic challenges make it difficult to meet the basic needs of all the children.

The irregularity in the children's school attendance is a direct consequence of financial constraints. They often face interruptions, being sent home when tuition fees are due and allowed to return only after the fees are settled. This cycle of economic hardship hampers the consistent education of Peace and her siblings.

Despite these challenges, Peace shows promise academically. Her dream of becoming a nurse could be realized with the support and assistance that would help alleviate the financial burden on her family, ensuring her uninterrupted access to education.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
