Nicholas lives with his father and two sisters after their mother left when he was a baby to look for work and never returned. Since then, their father has taken on the full responsibility of caring for the children, relying on small-scale farming to support the family. He grows food primarily for their own use, selling any extra to meet basic needs, including school costs.
