Monica lives with her parents in a village in Nkokonjeru, central Uganda. Her father works as an assistant at a local butcher, where he helps pack meat for customers. Unfortunately, this job provides a very low income, making it difficult for him to meet the family's needs, especially when it comes to paying school fees. Monica's mother, a housewife, supplements the family income by raising domestic animals like chickens and pigs, but the earnings from this are also minimal.

Despite the financial struggles, Monica is a promising student attending a Catholic-founded school. She works hard in her studies and is determined to achieve her dream of becoming a civil engineer. However, the family's poverty has put her education at risk. Any support provided to Monica would allow her to continue her education without interruptions, helping her pursue her goal of becoming a civil engineer and lifting her family out of poverty.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
