In 2020, Nakato Monica's father passed away from HIV/AIDS, leaving the family shattered. As the breadwinner, his death was particularly devastating since Nakato Monica's mother was not employed. To make matters worse, the family was living in a rented house and were unable to pay the rent, leading to their eviction.

Nakato Monica's mother was forced to take them to their paternal grandmother, and she has not returned since. Currently, Nakato Monica and her twin sister, Babirye Monica, live with their aging grandmother who is unable to provide for their school fees. Despite this, their grandmother is eager to see her grandchildren receive an education and has sought assistance from Caritas for Children. Nakato Monica and her twin both hope to become teachers, but in order to do this they need the help of a sponsor to attend school.
