Medina lives with her parents and siblings in a household of seven family members. Her father is a peasant farmer who grows crops such as bananas, coffee, beans, and maize, while also keeping a few domestic animals including chickens, goats, and pigs.

Her mother cares for the family and helps manage the household. She also operates a small stall in front of their home where she sells food items such as tomatoes and beans to earn a little additional income.

Although the family works hard, they continue to experience financial hardship because they rely mainly on seasonal harvests from their garden. With limited employment opportunities available, it is difficult for the family to secure a steady and reliable income.

Medina is a promising student who is committed to her education and eager to succeed. With support, she would be able to continue her studies consistently and work toward achieving her dreams.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
