Maria Gift’s father was murdered when robbers raided the home one evening leaving the family under the care of the mother. He was a trader and during the process of demanding money one robber shot him in the head and passed on there and then. Fear engulfed the family as when they narrate the ordeal, the family turns into tears. Some of the children had refused to stay in the same house in fear of being attacked again.

The mother is a vendor and deals mainly in vegetables and the little money earned is just enough to feed the family.

Maria Gift goes to school, but her studies are always interrupted by being sent home to collected the missing school requirements. This has been big blow to her academic work as she misses lessons. She needs assistance to allow her have steady academic progress.
