Female
Good Health
Favorite Subject: English
Favorite Pastime: Soccer

Maria Blessing's living situation is quite challenging, as she resides with her grandmother, who is employed as a teacher in a remote school near Lake Victoria. Her grandmother's salary is modest at best, and she assumed the responsibility of caring for her grandchildren following the tragic loss of their parents. Both of Maria Blessing's parents succumbed to AIDS, leaving the grandmother with a significant burden, particularly as she approaches her retirement from her civil service position.

Despite these hardships, Maria Blessing is dedicated to her education and exhibits a strong commitment to her studies. Her ambition is to become a doctor, a dream that holds great promise. However, realizing this dream may be a considerable challenge due to the family's financial constraints and the demanding circumstances they face. Support for Maria Blessing's education would not only enable her to pursue her dream but also alleviate some of the burdens faced by her devoted grandmother.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
