Justine is the first-born child of seven in her family, and currently lives with her aunt who supports them by peasant farming. She lives with her aunt because her mother bravely took her children and ran away from her abusive husband. Justine’s father is a drunkard who used to beat his wife and children whenever he drank – which was almost every day. After enduring this for some years, Justine’s mother finally ran away and tried to support her children on her own.

Although she worked very hard to provide for the family, Justine’s mother was unable to make enough to keep them all fed and clothed, so she asked Justine’s aunt to take her in to ease the burden.

Justine is a kind and caring girl whose dream is to become a nurse, which she will not be able to do without sponsorship since her parents and her aunt cannot afford to cover all the expenses necessary for school.

About my community:
Mary Queen of Families (Kasana-Luweero)
The Kasana-Luweero diocese suffered a massacre during the 1981-1986 civil war which left many children orphaned. As the effects of this tragedy are still felt today, we pray to Mary, Queen of Families to help build healthy families and restore hope in this diocese.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
