Like so much of the population of Uganda, Jonathan’s life has been tragically altered because of the prevalence of HIV/AIDS. His father died of the disease in 2019. His mother, while being HIV positive herself, is fortunately able to live with it thanks to medication.
After the death of her husband, since their relatives were unable and unwilling to support the family, Jonathan’s mother had to go to work by digging in other people’s gardens to get enough food for them to live on. Sometimes she is paid in cash instead of food, but it still isn’t enough for her to pay the rent and send her four children to school.
Jonathan wants to become a doctor when he grows up if he is able to go to school and finish his education. His two sisters, Shirat and Benitah, are also available for sponsorship through CARITAS.
