John is the youngest child in his family. His parents are peasant farmers who are only able to grow enough food for family consumption, which means that it was impossible for them to afford to educate their older children, and they dropped out of school.
However, they do hope that John will be able to get an education, but the only way he can do this is through a Caritas sponsorship. John says he would like to become a teacher so that he is able to teach his siblings and parents as well as other children in his village who are not able to go to school.

Mary Queen of Families (Kasana-Luweero)
The Kasana-Luweero diocese suffered a massacre during the 1981-1986 civil war which left many children orphaned. As the effects of this tragedy are still felt today, we pray to Mary, Queen of Families to help build healthy families and restore hope in this diocese.

Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
