Uganda
Female
Good Health
Favorite Subject: English
Favorite Pastime: Singing

Grace, along with her sister Jane, resides with their grandmother, as their parents' struggles with alcoholism have led them to neglect their responsibilities towards their children. Following the recent passing of their grandfather, the responsibility of caring for the family has fallen upon their grandmother's shoulders. Unfortunately, her age prevents her from engaging in work, leaving the family without a reliable source of income. Consequently, they face dire financial hardship, often having to forgo meals to make ends meet.

Although Grace possesses a deep passion for education, her grandmother's limited financial means meant that she could only afford to send her to school for a single month at the start of the year. Subsequently, financial constraints compelled her to be sent back home due to unpaid fees, rendering her unable to return to school since. The dire circumstances of their household make it nearly impossible for her grandmother to find the funds necessary to cover her school fees.

Grace's dream is to become a nurse, and she longs to have the opportunity to attend school regularly. If assisted, she will have the chance to pursue her education and achieve her goal.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
