George’ s father passed away from COVID 19 when George was only two years old. His passing left the family of nine children to their mother's care. Their mother is doing everything in her power to support her children, but the financial burden is enormous. Both mother and children have been struggling with lack of food and clothing.

The children that are able to attend classes have to wake up early in the morning to do some chores, such as working in the garden, washing dishes, and cleaning the house. Their mother finds work doing odd jobs like washing clothes for teachers of the neighboring schools, cleaning their houses and doing janitorial work in the schools near her home. She spends all day doing these jobs and searching for more job opportunities, but even these efforts are never enough to earn enough income to afford the family's basic necessities.

George is an academically promising pupil. He loves school, but his attendance is very irregular due to their financial struggles. His mother is seeking support for him so that he can be fully involved in school. If assisted, he will have a chance to achieve his dream of becoming a teacher.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
