Gabriel's family story unfolds with his father's departure, a decision made under the pretext of seeking employment opportunities that could alleviate their financial struggles. However, almost two years have passed since he left, and his whereabouts remain a mystery, leaving the family to navigate life's challenges without his support.

In this trying situation, Gabriel's mother stands as the pillar of the family, doing her utmost to provide for her three children. Despite her relentless efforts, finding a stable job has proven nearly impossible, leaving the family financially unstable. As a peasant farmer, she tills a small plot of land, yielding crops that she uses to feed her children. Any surplus from the harvest is sold, and the money is used to buy essential household items and contribute to her children's school fees, a testament to her determination to secure their education.

Gabriel and his two younger sisters hold a genuine passion for education. Their mother's ability to cover their school expenses determines their attendance, making every school day a cherished opportunity.

Gabriel's commitment to his studies shines brightly, showcasing his potential as a diligent and hardworking student. With a deep-rooted aspiration to become a teacher, he carries dreams that can shape not only his own life but the lives of others as well.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
