Felister's family, residing in a modest two-room house on the outskirts of a small trading center near Lake Victoria, faces significant challenges. The parents, who engage in small-scale farming, struggle to find stable employment, making it difficult to meet their family's basic needs. The income generated from their farming efforts mainly goes towards sustaining the family's immediate needs, leaving little for the education of their children.

Felister, along with her brother, attends a nearby privately-owned school. However, their education is frequently interrupted due to their parents' inability to consistently pay school fees and provide necessary classroom materials. This results in them being regularly sent home from school, disrupting their learning process.

Despite these challenges, Felister is a bright and diligent student, actively participating in school activities like singing and playing netball. She harbors a strong ambition to become a nurse. Consistent educational support and assistance with school fees and materials would not only ensure her regular attendance at school but also help her pursue her dream of entering the nursing profession.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
