Good Health
Favorite Subject: Reading
Favorite Pastime: Playing with other Kids

Emilina lives with her grandma who is a peasant and mother who is HIV positive and sickly. Neither Emilina nor her mother know the whereabouts of her father, and her mother’s story is very sad.

Before Emilina was born, her mother had a boyfriend whom she lived with for a while, and they had a baby boy. But after some time, this man abandoned them, so she took her son and moved back in with her own mother (Emilina’s grandmother). Eventually, the same situation repeated itself and she had another child, but the father abandoned them too.

She then met Emilina’s father, who she thinks is the one who gave her HIV. All of these events and broken relationships have given her a lot of trauma, and she has suffered from some mental issues. She still lives with her own mom with all her children, and since she is not trained in any professional skills herself, she helps her mother with peasant farming so that they can survive.

Emilina would like to become a nurse when she grows up if she is able to complete her education.

About my community:
Mary Queen of Families (Kasana-Luweero)
The Kasana-Luweero diocese suffered a massacre during the 1981-1986 civil war which left many children orphaned. As the effects of this tragedy are still felt today, we pray to Mary, Queen of Families to help build healthy families and restore hope in this diocese.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
