Desire's life took a tragic turn when her father drowned in Lake Victoria while fishing on a dangerous, windy morning. Ignoring warnings from his colleagues about the perilous conditions, he ventured out in a dug-out canoe, only for the worst to happen. His body was recovered four days later after a search involving special police divers. Since then, Desire and her family have faced immense challenges.

Her mother, now the sole provider for eight children, works hard to make ends meet. She raises domestic animals like pigs, chickens, and goats, and grows bananas to generate a small income. Despite these efforts, the financial strain on the family is significant, making it difficult to cover the children's educational expenses.

Desire, a determined student, does her best to succeed academically, but her progress is hindered by frequent absences due to the inability to pay school fees. She dreams of becoming a nurse, and with the help of a sponsor, she would be able to attend school regularly, focus on her studies, and work towards her goal of helping others in the medical field.
