Daphine stays with her parents and three siblings in a small trading Centre called Nkokonjeru. Her father is fisherman and does his on Lake Victoria. It has not been easy for him for last two years because the Ugandan government put a bun on fishing activities on all lakes in Uganda unless an individual acquires a license which is a very difficult venture. All this came about because the finish was being done indiscriminately and had depleted all species of fish in lakes.

After failing to secure a license, he decided to carry out illegal fishing. In many instances the police apprehend him, and he loses all his catch. Sometimes when found in the act, he drops down all his catch and run away to escape from being imprisoned.

This situation has brough misery in the home as he no longer earns anything to assist in the provision of what to sustain the home. The two children cannot attend classes because of lack of school requirements.

Daphine loves studies and if assisted she will be able to go back to school and work hard so as to be a doctor.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
