Dalton lives with his parents and three siblings in a small trading center called Nkokonjeru.

His father works as a fisherman on Lake Victoria, but the past two years have been very difficult due to government restrictions on fishing. Fishing is now only allowed with a license, which is difficult for him to obtain. This was introduced to help protect fish stocks that had been depleted by overfishing.

After failing to secure a license, he has sometimes resorted to illegal fishing in order to provide for the family. However, this has led to frequent challenges, including arrests by authorities and loss of his catch, leaving the family with no stable income.

As a result, the household has experienced significant hardship, and the children often struggle to attend school due to a lack of school requirements and related costs.

Dalton is promising learner and if any assistance is extended to him, he will be able to realize his dream of being a teacher.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
