Christine Awoori
Chistine stays with her parents in one of the villages in Nkokonjeru. The father works as a cook at one of the nearby schools. The mother is a housewife.
The father’s monthly salary is so little that he cannot afford to look after the big family of ten children, yet he does his work all day.
He has tried to send his children to school but, in most cases, he fails to meet the demands of the institution where they attend classes.
Christine had stated attending school but in a miserable situation because she went without books and pencils. She looks a clever girl and if any assistance is rendered to her, she will be able to attend classes on a regular basis.
About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
