Carol stays with her mother in the suburbs of a small trading in central Uganda. Her mother left her marital husband after a continued ruthless behavior he used to display whenever he came from a drinking spree. He would beat up the mother while children are watching to extend of stripping her naked.
The father did not have a permanent job that would occupy him all day. He instead did odd jobs like cleaning compounds of well to do people around the trading center and this would take a short period of time enabling him join beer parties the rest of the time of the day.
The mother rents a small room where she has sent up a small stall of ripe bananas. The little money earned is to sustain her six children in terms of feeding. If there is any small amount of money is for clearing fees for her children: Gorreth, carol and Joselyn.
