Betty stays with her mother and the three siblings. This has been the norm from the time the father passed due to overdrinking of alcohol. He had been warned by the medical personnel to control the vice but in vain. It was one evening, when he went to a beer party and started drinking on an empty stomach, when he stood up, staggered a bit a fell down. The onlookers took it as a joking matter because this was his behavior but  after a short while he started vomiting and rushed to nearby clinic. He passed on during the night of that very day.

The mother had to take over the mantle of sustain the family yet she didn’t have any income generating activity. She has engaged herself in  a number of odd jobs like selling charcoal , tomatoes and fire wood. Well wisher have join in to render assistance where possible but meeting school obligations has been a great problem to her.

Betty is hardworking pupil at school but she is let down because of lack of school requirements. If she is assisted she will able to continue with her academic studies

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
