Anthony's family, residing in a modest two-room house on the outskirts of a small trading center near Lake Victoria, faces significant financial challenges. With limited job opportunities in their area, his parents struggle to meet even the most basic needs of their family. They engage in small-scale farming, growing crops and keeping animals, but the income generated from these activities primarily goes towards sustaining the family, leaving little to spare for the children's education.

Both Anthony and his sister are enrolled in a nearby privately-owned school. However, their attendance is inconsistent due to their parents' inability to consistently pay school fees and provide necessary classroom materials. This situation often leads to them being sent home from school, interrupting their education.

For Anthony, missing school is a source of great distress, as he is deeply committed to his studies. His aspiration to become a doctor is at risk without steady access to education. Assistance in covering school fees and other academic requirements would not only stabilize his attendance but also pave the way for him to pursue his dream and potentially change the trajectory of his life.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
