When Ann Mary’s father separated from her mother, he chased her and their 7 children away from the house where they were living together. Ann Mary’s mother tried to seek help from family protection officers but she could not afford the fees, which left their family homeless. A good Samaritan lent them a temporary house and a piece of land to grow food for the family and they have been in this house for 6 years. They have not heard at all from their father.
Ann Mary’s mother and sometimes her older children go to people’s gardens to dig and earn some money for basic needs like clothing and any medical bills. They struggle to get the money required so that the children can attend school. Ann is a bright girl whose dream is becoming a doctor but will not be able to reach this goal if she is not able to attend school.
