Alexia, the youngest of four sisters, faces numerous challenges due to her father's recent imprisonment. He has been imprisoned for political reasons and is serving an undisclosed sentence. This has resulted in considerable hardship for the family, marked by a lack of essential provisions. Alexia's mother, a housewife, strives to make ends meet by engaging in various odd jobs, such as gardening for others and selling fried cassava in the local trading center. However, the income generated is often insufficient to cover the family's basic needs.

The family's financial struggles directly impact Alexia's education. The irregular attendance is a consequence of frequent requests to collect school fee balances. During such periods, Alexia may remain at home until her mother can earn enough money to clear the outstanding fees. Despite these challenges, Alexia harbors a dream of becoming a doctor, reflecting her aspirations for a brighter future through education. The family is in need of support to ensure steady schooling for Alexia, allowing her the opportunity to pursue her dreams.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
