Tracy has never known her father, since he left when she was only 3 months old and they don’t know where he is. She lives with her mother who is a housemaid, and helps people in the village to wash their clothes, cook and clean their houses whenever they can pay her to work. She tries very hard to support her family but sometimes struggles to find enough work. 

For many years, Tracy’s mother has tried to send her daughter to school at the beginning of the school year. Because her work is so inconsistent, however, she eventually is always unable to pay the monthly tuition fees and Tracy is forced to drop out. 

To ease the burden on Tracy’s mother and to give her a safe place to get an education and daily meals, Tracy needs to be sponsored for boarding school. She is a clever girl who loves to sing and hopes to become a teacher when she grows up if she can finish her education.
