Ruth (Lucia) Balinja
Ruth, also known as Lucia, is currently in desperate need of a new sponsor to continue her education. Her long-time sponsor, who ensured she had a safe and stable environment in boarding school, is no longer able to support her. This puts Ruth’s education and safety at risk, as returning home could expose her to an uncertain and unstable living situation.
Ruth lives with her mother, a peasant farmer, who works tirelessly to provide for Ruth and her two siblings. Her mother often has to travel to distant areas to work in other people’s gardens to earn enough for food and to pay for their rented room. These absences create significant risks for Ruth, making the security of boarding school an essential environment for her. Unfortunately, with the loss of her sponsorship, the stability that the boarding school offers is now uncertain.
Ruth is a bright and joyful girl, full of respect and hope. She has a deep love for learning and a strong desire to finish her education so that she can become a responsible and contributing member of her community. Your support as a sponsor would not only provide her with a safe home in boarding school, but also empower her to achieve her educational goals, breaking the cycle of poverty and allowing her to become a positive influence in her community.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
