Mitchelle's upbringing has been marked by the challenges of her parents' troubled relationship. From the early days of their love, they experienced frequent and intense arguments, leading to their separation when Mitchelle was just four months old. Following the separation, Mitchelle's mother left, leaving her in the care of her father, who, unsure of what to do, entrusted her to her grandmother's care.

Mitchelle's early days were marred by malnourishment and illness, leading to her hospitalization for almost a month. Fortunately, she made a remarkable recovery under her grandmother's care. Mitchelle's father sought employment in a nearby country, working at a sawmill in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and he rarely visits his mother and daughter in Uganda.

For Mitchelle, her grandmother has become the maternal figure in her life, as her mother's whereabouts remain unknown. However, the grandmother, a retired civil service worker, faces financial struggles, especially with the increasing costs associated with Mitchelle's care, including her education. While she receives a modest pension, it covers only basic needs, and with additional grandchildren to support, financial responsibilities have become a considerable burden.

They are hoping to receive some support through CARITAS For Children so that Mitchelle can continue attending school.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
