Martha's parents separated when she was very young, and her father passed away before she had the chance to know and remember him. Her mother, who is unemployed, struggles to support the family, especially with the additional responsibility of her new family with Martha's stepfather. To alleviate some of the financial strain, Martha and her siblings are cared for by their maternal grandmother. However, the grandmother's poor health limits her ability to encourage Martha to study or help with homework.

Due to the need to care for their grandmother, Martha and her siblings often miss school. In the past, Martha has missed entire school terms, causing her to fall further behind in her studies. This situation makes it increasingly difficult for Martha to keep up academically.

Without assistance, these five children are at risk of being unable to complete their education, making it challenging for them to support themselves in the future. Martha is a dedicated student, and with support, she can continue her education and work towards a brighter future.

Previously, Martha had a sponsor who supported her through her primary education, but now that Martha has advanced to the secondary level, her sponsor was unable to continue. She needs a new sponsor in order to complete her secondary level of education.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
