Maria and her sister come from an impoverished family. Their father tragically lost his life in a boating accident while fishing, leaving their mother to struggle with the family's financial challenges, particularly regarding the children's education. The father had been the sole breadwinner and had supported their school fees.

In the absence of her husband, Maria's mother turned to peasant farming in the village. While this provided some food for the family, it didn't generate sufficient income to cover the costs of the girls' education. Nevertheless, their mother is determined to provide her daughters with an education, recognizing its significance for their future success.

Maria aspires to become a doctor, but she is well aware of the extensive schooling required to realize her dream. She is concerned that her ambition may remain unfulfilled due to her mother's inability to afford her school fees. Maria is a bright and studious girl with a keen interest in learning, and English is her favorite subject. Your support could be the catalyst that propels Maria toward her educational goals and empowers her to work towards her dream of becoming a doctor.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
