Female
Good Health
Favorite Subject: English
Favorite Pastime: Dancing

Fortunate lives with her mother who is a local teacher earning about $45 a month - the only income she has to use for rent, food, clothing, medical bills, among other basic needs. Her mother tries her best to make it enough but sadly she is still unable to send Fortunate to school. Her father ran away about eight years ago when Fortunate was just one year old and disappeared, leaving them in a house which they were renting. They later moved to a single rented room which the mother can afford.

Fortunate’s mother says she tried her best to look for the father but could not find him, and when she went to his family for support, no one was willing or able to give a hand. The same thing happened when she went to her own family, no one could support her - so she bravely decided to carry her cross as a mother and care for her daughter on her own. However, since she was not able to educate her, she reached out to CARITAS for help.

Fortunate is loving, friendly and smart and dreams of becoming a pilot when she grows up!

About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
