Margaret has been raised by her mother, as her father left while her mother was pregnant and never returned. He had mentioned going to look for work in South Sudan, but the family hasn’t heard from him since.

Her mother works as a primary school teacher, but her small salary barely covers their basic household needs. Even so, she’s done everything she can to keep Margaret in school. At times, she’s had to make special arrangements with the headteacher—offering to collect firewood or work in the school gardens after hours when she couldn’t afford the school fees.

Margaret is a bright and motivated student who dreams of becoming a doctor. Her determination to learn is clear, but without extra support, it’s becoming harder for her mother to keep her in school.
