Leysy, a spirited girl nearing the completion of her secondary education, has faced life's challenges with resilience. After her father abandoned the family, her overwhelmed mother could no longer care for her ten children alone due to extreme poverty. Seeing their plight, caring sisters at a local home provided Leysy and her sister Nicauri Perez a nurturing environment to continue their education. Now, as Leysy approaches graduation, she is in need of a sponsor to help her pursue further studies and realize her potential.

In the safety of the sisters' care, Leysy has excelled academically, turning each challenge into a stepping stone toward a brighter future. Her journey has been supported by the community, but to advance her education beyond secondary school, continued sponsorship is crucial. This support will ensure that her academic progress remains uninterrupted and her dreams achievable.

As graduation looms, Leysy's story of overcoming adversity is both inspiring and a call to action. She represents hope for her family and many others in similar situations. By sponsoring Leysy, a benefactor has the opportunity to directly impact her life and empower her to give back to the community that has raised her from despair to ambition. Her future, brimming with possibilities, now depends on the generosity of a sponsor ready to invest in the promise of her potential.

About my community:
St. Teresa of Avila (San Juan)
In the diocese of San Juan, CARITAS provides our ministry in collaboration with the Carmelite Sisters. Because our children are being taught and brought up by these sisters, the patron saint whose intercession we ask for this community is St. Teresa of Avila, a famous Carmelite saint.
About my country:
Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic, on the eastern side of the island of Hispaniola, is frequently pummeled by hurricanes and tropical storms that can significantly impact the lives of poor people. Over 34% of Dominicans live below the poverty line, and in addition, many Haitian children have fled here in the aftermath of the 2010 and 2020 earthquake.
