Joseline faces significant educational challenges due to her family's precarious financial situation. With two school-going brothers, Joseline's pursuit of education is fraught with hardships, threatening her ability to continue beyond the early stages of her schooling. The family's struggles have been compounded by her mother's escalating mental illness over the past eight years, culminating in a situation so dire that it prompted her father to abandon the family in 2021. This left Joseline and her siblings in the care of their 71-year-old grandmother, who was already responsible for four other grandchildren and lacked a steady source of income.

The grandmother, reliant on modest earnings from small-scale farming and sporadic help from neighbors or well-wishers, finds it increasingly difficult to meet the basic needs of her grandchildren. Her advanced age and limited physical capacity hinder her ability to engage in more labor-intensive work to provide for the family. Consequently, Joseline and her siblings frequently miss school due to the inability to afford tuition and other educational necessities, placing their academic and future career aspirations in jeopardy.

In light of these challenges, the grandmother is making an urgent appeal for sponsorship to support Joseline's education. Recognizing Joseline's ambition to become a medical nurse, she hopes that benevolent sponsorship can ensure that her granddaughter does not miss out on fulfilling her potential. This support would offer Joseline the opportunity to continue her education uninterrupted, laying the groundwork for a future that transcends the current cycle of poverty and instability that defines her family's life.

About my community:
St. Charles Lwanga (Kampala)
Kampala is the largest diocese in Uganda, so most of our children attend schools in this region. St. Charles Lwanga (one of the Uganda Martyrs whose shrine is located in this diocese) is also the patron saint of Africa, so we invoke his patronage on this community.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
