Hibah's life has been deeply affected by her father's struggles with alcoholism, which has led him to neglect his responsibilities as a family provider. His absence and the resulting lack of stability have created significant hardships for Hibah and her family. The family's daily life is marked by the uncertainty of whether they will have a meal, often surviving on just tea for sustenance.

Hibah's mother, a dedicated housewife, does what she can to support the family by taking on small jobs like laundry work for neighbors and occasionally cleaning their compounds. However, the income she earns is meager and barely enough to cover basic necessities, let alone school fees for Hibah.

Despite these challenges, Hibah remains committed to her studies. She is a diligent and motivated student who shows a strong interest in her academic work. The primary obstacle to her success is her irregular attendance at school, caused by the financial struggles at home. Hibah dreams of becoming a teacher, and with the right support, she could have the opportunity to achieve this goal and inspire others through education.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
