Francis, alongside his siblings, is facing significant challenges in pursuing his education due to severe financial constraints within his family. His mother's battle with mental illness over the past eight years has progressively worsened, leading to a situation where his father, unable to cope with the increasing demands, abandoned the family. This left Francis and his siblings in the care of their 71-year-old grandmother, who already had four other grandchildren to support. With no reliable source of income and limited physical capability due to her age, the grandmother struggles to provide for the basic needs of her grandchildren, resulting in Francis and his siblings frequently missing school.

The grandmother’s primary means of sustenance is derived from small-scale agricultural activities and occasional help from neighbors or well-wishers. However, these efforts are insufficient to meet the educational needs of Francis and his siblings. The situation is dire, with the grandmother unable to engage in more strenuous work that could potentially offer better financial stability. As a result, the prospect of continuous education for Francis and his siblings hangs in the balance, with each day presenting an uncertainty that threatens to derail their future aspirations.

The grandmother's plea for sponsorship reflects a deep desire to secure a brighter future for Francis, who dreams of becoming a teacher. Despite the overwhelming challenges, there is hope that with generous support, Francis can overcome the hurdles that currently impede his educational journey. Sponsorship would not only alleviate the immediate financial burden on the grandmother but also pave the way for Francis to achieve his dream, breaking the cycle of poverty and despair that currently defines his family's existence.

About my community:
St. Charles Lwanga (Kampala)
Kampala is the largest diocese in Uganda, so most of our children attend schools in this region. St. Charles Lwanga (one of the Uganda Martyrs whose shrine is located in this diocese) is also the patron saint of Africa, so we invoke his patronage on this community.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
