Daniella and her two brothers have grown up in very difficult conditions, often doing manual labor to help provide food and basic school supplies for the family. Although both of her parents are alive, the family struggles with extreme poverty and lacks stable housing. A kindhearted neighbor allowed them to stay on a small piece of land where a simple grass-thatched house was built, but the shelter offers little protection during the rainy season.

A compassionate woman has stepped in to help care for Daniella, but her limited income makes it difficult to provide for Daniella in addition to her own children. While she continues to assist as much as she can, she is uncertain how long she will be able to support Daniella’s education and future needs.

As Daniella grows older, concerns about her future continue to increase. Without consistent support, it may become difficult for her to continue her education beyond primary school.

Despite these challenges, Daniella is a bright and hardworking student who enjoys learning and hopes to continue her studies. She dreams of becoming a doctor one day if given the opportunity to stay in school and pursue her education.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
