Catherine, alongside her three sisters, faces a life filled with adversity in Kigango village under the care of their aged grandmother and unemployed mother. Their once content family was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading their father to abandon them due to financial pressures he deemed insurmountable. Following his departure, their mother endeavored to fulfill the familial obligations of providing basic needs and ensuring the education of her daughters. However, the enormity of this task soon became unmanageable, leading to frequent educational interruptions for Catherine’s elder sisters due to the inability to pay school fees on time.

The family's dire situation is compounded by the mother's reliance on odd jobs that offer minimal financial relief, barely enough to cover their daily sustenance. At times, this precarious income falls short, leaving them to face hunger. The grandmother, despite her willingness, is incapacitated by age and her own dependents, leaving her unable to offer substantial assistance. This precarious financial condition places Catherine’s educational journey and that of her sisters in jeopardy, signaling a bleak outlook for their future aspirations.

The collective concern of Catherine’s family is the potential squandering of her innate teaching talent due to the looming threat of discontinuing her education. This critical juncture in Catherine’s life calls for compassionate intervention to secure her educational path. The family’s appeal for sponsorship is a desperate plea to salvage Catherine’s potential and ensure that her promising future as a teacher does not remain an unfulfilled dream. The support would not only transform Catherine’s life but also offer her family a glimmer of hope amidst their struggles.

About my community:
St. Charles Lwanga (Kampala)
Kampala is the largest diocese in Uganda, so most of our children attend schools in this region. St. Charles Lwanga (one of the Uganda Martyrs whose shrine is located in this diocese) is also the patron saint of Africa, so we invoke his patronage on this community.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
