Andrew lives with his father and siblings after his mother abandoned the family due to prolonged financial hardship. When she left, she mentioned that she was going to look for work to help her husband with the family's financial problems. Unfortunately, two days later, she switched off her phone and ceased all communication with them.

Andrew’s father manages a small coffee plantation. The income from the coffee harvest helps the family afford home essentials, but coffee is a seasonal crop. This means there are long periods between harvests when the family faces severe financial difficulties. Andrew is an average pupil in class but has a great zeal for studying and enjoys being in the company of his fellow learners. With assistance, he could attend school regularly and work hard to achieve his dream of becoming a doctor.
