Andrew lives with his father and siblings after his mother abandoned the family due to prolonged financial hardship. When she left, she mentioned that she was going to look for work to help her husband with the family's financial problems. Unfortunately, two days later, she switched off her phone and ceased all communication with them.

Andrew’s father manages a small coffee plantation. The income from the coffee harvest helps the family afford home essentials, but coffee is a seasonal crop. This means there are long periods between harvests when the family faces severe financial difficulties. During these times, Andrew's father cannot afford the children's tuition fees, forcing them to stay home.

Andrew is an average pupil in class but has a great zeal for studying and enjoys being in the company of his fellow learners. With assistance, he could attend school regularly and work hard to achieve his dream of becoming a doctor.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
