CARITAS For Children Featured Volunteer
CARITAS For Children has been blessed with many incredible volunteers, and we'd like to introduce one of them to you. The spotlight is on Vatsana, who helps out by volunteering her time in the CARITAS For Children Milwaukee office every week!
In 1990, Vatsana immigrated with her family to the United States from Thailand in Southeast Asia. They had fled to Thailand from their home in Laos because of communism and war between two competing military powers. Laos remains under communist rule today.
"Having to start a new life in the U.S was quite a blessing to our family," Vatsana says. "When my family came to the U.S, we were not alone."
Vatsana's aunt and her family lived in the United States and Vatsana's family was able to stay with them until they could find a place of their own-it was her cousin who made sure she and her brothers were enrolled in school.
"In our family background, we know all too well of the struggles and adversity faced living in a third world country." For Vatsana and her family, finding a new home in the U.S. was particularly meaningful. "My parents had always told me about the help they received from Americans who went to set up camp in and around the Thailand and Laos borders. The story had inspired me to want to serve and help others who are in need as well."
Having Vatsana's help in the office is a blessing to CARITAS For Children. We really appreciate her sharing her talents and abilities; supporting CARITAS For Children's mission to help provide children in need with an education and a nurturing environment where they have an opportunity to reach their full potential.
