#4 in the ''Ugandan Journey'' Series

#4 in the ''Ugandan Journey'' Series

Bonnie (missionary) in Ugandan classroom.jpgPeter 4:10

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.

What did I have to offer to the children and adults of Nkokonjeru, Uganda?

After all, I had just been a hairdresser for 40 plus years, run a licensed day care center in my home for a few years, volunteered as a nursing home Eucharist minister, served the homeless alongside the Friars for a couple of years.  What did I have to offer? I wasn't a nurse, doctor, dental assistant, a licensed teacher, a physical therapist. The gift I had received and used to serve others was my willingness.

My willingness to love and obey God, my willingness to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, see the face of Jesus in each person I encountered that day. Just to be quiet and listen to the mother of a child who was malnourished, special needs or just needed to be heard.

God had given me the talent of stepping outside my comfort zone and acting silly with the children while we sang "The Wheels on The Bus".

I could see the children loved learning through art and music, so we did that every Thursday.

Art in the Park with special needs children grew because the older children began coming. Was it because I was a great teacher?  Well, thinking it was more the cookies and juice I provided at the end of each class.

The blessings we receive by being the hands and feet of God are immeasurable and all we have to do is say "Yes".
